Former Shooting Stars Football Club chairman Ademola Oyadeyi was shot dead in Ibadan on Friday by gunmen suspected to be armed robbers.
The 64-year-old Oyadeyi, a passionate supporter of the club for decades, was attacked at his fuel station around 8pm as he was closing for the day.
According to 3SC Media Officer, Jubril Arowolo, “Chief Oyadeji was sadly killed by people suspected to be armed robbers who came for the money made that day at his newly-built Demoya Petrol Station which is located alongside his hotel at Alengongo, Akobo, Ibadan.
“We are sad about this unfortunate incident and Shooting Stars Football Club is shocked by this news. We are also using this opportunity to pray that God should grant his family and 3SC family the fortitude to bear this irreparable loss,” Arowolo told KickOffNigeria.com in Ibadan on Sunday.
Oyadeyi, who owns the popular Metro Hotel in Ibadan, where he used to accommodate 3SC players free of charge, was appointed club chairman in December 2006 and served until May 29, 2007.
He later returned to his hotel business when his board was not retained by Governor Alao Akala of Oyo State.
Reacting to his death, the present general manager of Shooting Stars, Mutiu Adepoju, who spoke from Spain on Sunday afternoon, disclosed that he received the new with shock and disbelief.
“They called from Nigeria yesterday (Saturday) to inform me of Chief Oyadeyi's death. I am presently in Spain on an important mission; I will definitely pay a condolence visit when I return to Nigeria this week. I received this news with total shock and disbelief. It is an unfortunate incident and I am short of words. I pray that God should grant his family the fortitude to bear this great loss,” Adepoju prayed
