All Africa University Games organising committee has clarified that they are still looking for the bulk of the sh6bn budget to host the games at Makerere in July.
The president of the University sports body NUSFU Peninah Kebenge said reports in the media that MTN had helped them raise up to sh3bn were not true. Kabenge said they are yet to realise 10 per cent of their budget. She insisted they are still in talks with MTN. Kabenge said MTN was one of several companies still being pursued to realise their budget and save the games.
If NUSFU raise the funds in time, universities from 17 African countries will compete in football, volleyball, handball, basketball, chess, squash, rugby, swimming, netball and table tennis.
