Ace Zimbabwe and Manchester City striker Benjani Mwaruwari is in the running for the unbranded 2007 Annual National Sports Awards (ANSA) Sportsperson of the Year award, whose winners will be announced in Harare on Saturday.
Mwaruwari, who is riding on a crest of a wave in the English Premiership, was nominated in the Sportsman of the year category together with tennis star Kevin Ullyet, shortlist Mike Nicholson, kick boxer Brighton Tangata, track athlete Talkmore Nyongani and motor rallying speed merchant Conrad Rautenbech.
Charles Nhemachena, the chief executive of the Sport and Recreation Commission made the revelation yesterday.
South African soccer legend Jomo Sono will be one of the special guests at the awards ceremony.
Sono has an intimate relationship with Zimbabwean sport being the one who Mwaruwari from Jets to his club, Jomo
