In a press conference given in Tunis on Thursday, the coach of Tunisia's squad, Roger Lemerre said that the team's first goal was to move ahead to the second round of the African Football Cup of nations which is due to be held in Ghana from January 20 to February 10, 2007.
Lemerre said that in spite of the difficulties lying in store for the Carthage Eagles in the first round of the competition which will see Tunisia play respectively against South Africa, Senegal and Angola, the team was ready to rise up to the challenge , thanks to the determination of all the players.
Roger Lemerre added that after the initial warm up matches against Zambia and two Tunisian teams, "the group has gained in coherence and homogeneity, and that the players were ready."
Referring to the Eagles first match against Senegal on January 23, Tunisia's coach said that "If we can defeat Senegal, South Africa and Angola we will be able to achieve something in this event, however our opponents think the same" adding that "what counts is the truth on the pitch ".
