Nigeria/Ghana:Titanic Tussle

With the Super Eagles of Nigeria set to take on their West Africa rivals, Ghana, tomorrow in a talk of the town cracker, the Ghanaians, who were rooting for Eagles' qualification from the group stage, have all turned patriotic giving the Nigerians no chance at all to progress on the experience of their darling team, the Black Stars.

On their radio and television stations, the sreets eatries, offices and joints, the talk is the Ghana-Nigeria clash. Ghanaians do not hesitate to remind Nigerians of the 4-1 drubbing in England by the Black Stars and that this is the time to consolidate and bury Nigeria's ambition on the continent. But Super Eagles assistant coach, Austin Eguavoen, reacting, said that although the Nigerian technical crew respect the Ghanaians in this championship, the Black Stars should save their celebration till after the final whistle on sunday evening as the match can go either way."We know the Eagles disappointed Nigerians in the first round but now the coach is working hard to see that we get a good outing against Ghana in Accra on Sunday. We know the Ghanaians have written us off but the game can go either way."

On the future of the team, Eguavoen believes all the preparation of this present squad is geared towards the world cup.

"All preparation is towards the world cup in South Africa in 2010 and this Nations Cup is part of our build up to the mundial. We have a young team that will do well ahead this championship," he said.
