Harry Kane to Manchester United would be a ‘fantastic signing’ claims Phil Neville

Harry Kane
As is standard procedure as far as Manchester United and transfer windows are concerned, various names are getting propelled in the club’s direction left, right and centre from media outlets. Likewise, journalists and pundits fill their time in the off-season by dissecting where teams need to strengthen ahead of the upcoming season.
It is common knowledge that United will almost certainly be adding another striker to their ranks, with Radamel Falcao already departing, for a seemingly imminent transfer to Chelsea, and doubts lingering over both Robin van Persie’s and Javier Hernandez’s immediate futures at Old Trafford.
Despite the season ending barely a month ago, the amount of players being linked with United has already reached the typically ludicrous levels, particularly in the striking department: The likes of Christian Benteke, Gonzalo Higuain, Karim Benzema and Roberto Firmino have all been subject of column inches linking Manchester United with their services in recent weeks.
Now former United player and assistant manager Phil Neville has given his two pennies worth on who he thinks United should be targeting to bolster their strike force next season. Despite the well-known difficulties in negotiating  a seemingly reasonable price out of Daniel Levy, Neville has suggested that Tottenham striker Harry Kane should be the man to lead the line next season, saying he would be a ‘fantastic signing’ for the club.
Neville was speaking to Sky Sports ahead of yesterday’s charity match between a United legends side against their Bayern Munich counterparts:
“He was unbelievable last year and I am a big fan of Harry Kane, I love the way he goes about his business.
“He works hard and has a great attitude and nothing seems to faze him, he’s answered every question that has been thrown his way.
“The team and the club has always had a backbone of British players and I think that is still important, that you get British players and the spine of the team has that British feeling.
“That has been the key success to this club for many years and I hope that would continue.
“Kane would cost a lot of money that’s for sure and I’m sure Tottenham don’t want to lose him.
“But I think with losing Falcao, and being in the Champions League, United have Robin Van Persie, Wayne Rooney and James Wilson so they probably do need one more striker and the type of signing that Man United will make this summer will be a signing that will be a quality player from European football whether that is England or abroad.
“Kane fits that bill and if they can get Harry Kane here that would be a fantastic signing.”
There can be little doubting that Harry Kane had a stunning breakthrough campaign last season at Spurs under Mauricio Pochettino. The England striker plundered 21 league goals en route to being awarded the PFA Young Player of the Year award. That stellar form led to an England call-up and a goal on his international debut to cap a memorable 2014-15 season.
The rumours linking him with United, therefore, should not come as a great surprise to many, form like that does not go unnoticed. Despite all the talk, it seems as though it would be a difficult transfer to pull off, given United’s recent history with Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy and the fact that the reported fee would still represent a gamble for a player who has only recently hit the ground running on the big stage.
It remains to be seen how strong United’s interest in Kane really is, with Sky Sports claiming that United’s mentality towards Kane has ‘changed in the last three or four weeks’. United are apparently more receptive to a move for the Spurs man now compared to their standpoint in previous weeks, where the links were flatly blunted by the club.
It is one thing being interested in a Spurs player, another to force Levy into a sale.
