Drogba, Essien and Kanoute warm up to collect awards

The top three nominees for the prestigious Glo-CAF Player of the Year Award was announced yesterday with Mali’s Fredrick Kanoute joining reigning champion
Didier Drogba and last year’s runner-up, Michael Essien on the list announced in Lome by the Confederation of African Football. Togo and Arsenal’s Emmanuel Adebayo and Mahmadou Diarra of Real Madrid and Mali missed out from the nominations having made it to the top five announced in Lagos last month.
Yemi Tella, the late coach of the Nigeria U-17 team that won the FIFA World U-17 Championship in Ghana last year made it to the top three nominees of the Coach of the Year Award. Two Tunisian club coaches, Bertrand Marchand of Etoile De Sahel and Michel Decastel of Sfax are the other nominees for the Coach of the Year Award.

Samlam at the Sarakawa Hotel in Lome, Togo at a well attended press conference.
Samlam also announced the three top nominees for seven of the other 11 categories for the awards ceremony which will hold on February 1 at the Palais des Congres, Lome.
