A report in France’s L’Equipe today suggests that Manchester United have agreed a four year deal with Southampton midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin.
L’Equipe says that although a deal has been agreed, the fee is still yet to be decided but could reach €30m.
Schneiderlin has been linked with United all summer and is seen as a replacement for the ageing Michael Carrick.
There are further reports today as The Times’ James Ducker says that Schneiderlin is likely to join Man United in a £24m deal only if Bastian Schweinsteiger opts to stay at Bayern Munich.
Schneiderlin is regarded to be one of the most underrated midfielders in the Premier League and was crucial in Ronald Koeman turning them into a team competing for Europe team last term.
The French midfielder fits the mould of the versatile midfielder that United so desperately need and can operate in both a defensive minded No.6 role and as more of a central midfielder.
He also fits into the kind of scheme that Louis van Gaal likes to play and could be compared to the likes of Kevin Strootman, who Van Gaal loves as a player.
Schneiderlin had a Twitter outburst followed by a reported training ground bust up last summer due to frustration surrounding the club stopping a transfer to a Champions League club after an exodus of other players.
He put his head down and played admirably this season and it is believed that he has earned a transfer to a Champions League with his attitude and performances on the field.
