The Daily Mirror has suggested that Arsenal are readying a new and improved deal for star midfielder Jack Wilshere amidst speculation linking Manchester City with a summer bid for the player’s services.
The 23-year-old missed a large chunk of the last season through an ankle injury, and then struggled for playing time once he returned into action, with many believing he has lost his place in the starting line-up.
Wilshere did show some promise near the end of the campaign, with a brace for England in a 3-2 triumph over Slovenia hinting the midfielder still has what it takes to play at the highest level.
According to the recent reports, Manchester City are considering a summer bid for the highly rated footballer as they look to improve their options in the centre of the park, but the Gunners are desperate to keep hold of their prized asset.
The Daily Mirror has claimed that Arsenal may offer Wilshere a new five-year deal in order to ward off interest from the Citizens, where his current wage would be doubled.
The England hotshot has another three years left on his current contract, but the Gunners could now make him one of their highest-paid players as they clearly believe he can go on to become one of club’s best ever footballers.
