President Thabo Mbeki says South Africa will overcome its electricity crisis and that it would not impact on the country’s hosting of the 2010 World Cup.
In his annual State of the Nation address in Parliament today, Mbeki acknowledged that the latest wave of load-shedding had raised concerns about the country’s ability to host the event as well as the Confederations Cup.
“I have absolutely no doubt that we will honour our undertaking to Fifa and the world community... to create all the necessary conditions for the hosting of the best ever Fifa soccer World Cup tournament.”
