Nigeria Boxing Board of Control (NBB of C) president, Prince Olaide Adeboye has dismissed fear over the change of venue for The Nigerian Nightmare, Samuel Peter's World Boxing Council (WBC) heavyweight title fight against Oleg Maskaev.
The fight initially scheduled for Las Vegas, USA, March 8, 2008 was shifted to Cancun, Mexico, the home country of WBC president, Jose Sulaiman.
Despite the change of venue, Adeboye insists Peter will emerge victorious and get crowned authentic WBC champion two months from now.
"In spite of the change of venue, I have utmost confidence in Samuel Peter that he will defend his title successfully on March 8 in Cancun.
"Many Nigerians have expressed fears that the change in venue may be a design to ensure that Peter loses the title. He is a professional who can fight under any condition," he said.
Adeboye also revealed that Samuel Peter had told him that the fight is for Nigeria and Africa, while also saying that he will have to put in his best to ensure he makes the county and continent proud by getting victory against Maskaev.
"Peter told me he owes a lot to Nigeria and Africa, for the support he has got all these past months, and he wants to reward us all by winning in Mexico.
"He felt greatly honoured with the receptions given him by the federal government and Akwa Ibom State last year and promised not to let Nigeria and Africa down," the NBB of C boss said.
